Anna Wyrzykowska
President, International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA) & Partner at WKB Wierciński, Kwieciński, Baehr, Poland
Anna Wyrzykowska is the head of WKB’s Real Estate & Property Development practice. She also advises clients on company law and corporate matters, as well as mergers and acquisitions and co-heads the French desk. Anna specialises in real estate trading law, spatial planning and land development law, and construction law, and assists clients in property purchases, location of prospective developments and contracting with architects and construction companies. She has many years’ experience in advising on the commercialisation of shopping centre, office and warehouse space. In addition, she provides training on company law, as well as the legal intricacies of the commercial real estate and lease market.
She represents clients in dispute resolution and administrative proceedings in real estate and company law related matters and cases.
Anna is the President and member of the Bureau of AIJA (Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats/International Association of Young Lawyers)
Anna is also a lecturer on real estate and company law at Warsaw Bar Association (Okręgowa Rada Adwokacka w Warszawie).
Richard BRIGGS
President, Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), UAE
Richard is a recognised leader in commercial dispute resolution in the UAE and has practised contentious business law in the UAE and Middle East region for most of his career. His areas of specialisation are in the commercial litigation and arbitration fields, particularly with reference to commercial dispute, maritime, trade and insurance law in the United Arab Emirates and larger Middle East area.
Prior to working as Executive Partner at Hadef & Partners, Richard trained with Clifford Chance in London, worked with Clifford Chance in London and Dubai (1992 – 1996), later joining Al Tamimi & Co as partner (1996 – 2004).
Richard is a member of the Law Society and a Practicing Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He is also a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), the Inter Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) and ICC FraudNet Member for the UAE.
Further, Richard is Vice Chairman and Member of the Board of Directors and Committee of the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC). He is also the Vice President and Director of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA).
Richard was formerly the Chairman of the ICC FraudNet S&P Committee from 2017 – 2019 and member of the ICC FraudNet Advisory Board, and former Vice Chair of the IBA Maritime Committee from 2008 – 2014.
Hervé CHEMOULI
President, Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), FRANCE
Hervé Chemouli is a partner, co-founder and co-manager of the SELARL Chemouli Professions Libérales. The firm is specially dedicated to the liberal professions, legal, judicial and health.
A graduate of HEC Executive Management, he held institutional positions as a member of the Paris Bar Council (2000-2002) and the Conseil National des Barreaux (2003-2005). Today, he remains an expert with the Commission on the Professional Status of Lawyers (SPA), the CNB and became President of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), where he successively held the positions of Commission President, Finance Director, Congress Director and Vice President. His involvement in this association dates back more than thirty years.
He’s a former President of ACE Paris and his international activities were carried out in the Maghreb region, particularly in Morocco, as well as in all the countries of Latin America.
His knowledge of the international business and the many countries he has visited has allowed him to acquire solid relationships abroad, especially with international law firms.
Josephine M. BAHN
Chair, American Bar Association – Young Lawyers Division (ABA-YLD), USA
Josephine Bahn focuses her practice on commercial litigation and construction law. She counsels real estate developers, project owners, contractors, and design professionals in all phases of the construction process. Jo’s practice includes public and private projects as well as bid protests throughout the United States. She also regularly handles claims related to mechanics’ liens on projects. Jo has wide-ranging experience litigating construction defect claims including stucco and other water intrusion claims. She has litigated in a wide range of forums, including state, federal, and administrative forums as well as various boards of contract appeals.
Prior to joining the Cozen O’Connor, she was a senior attorney in the enforcement section of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). There, Jo focused on banking laws and regulations, including the Federal Deposit Insurance Act, Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Federal Housing Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act. She managed, investigated, and developed legal strategy for 10c enforcement litigation matters and investigations involving deceptive and unfair practices to consumers and fraud or other risk-related harm to FDIC insured institutions. She worked with the FDIC’s seven regional offices and examiners in the FDIC’s Division of Consumer Protection and Risk Management Supervision. She developed methods to streamline pleadings related to 10c investigations and other consumer related enforcement documents. Through the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI), Jo provided advice to the FDIC chairman on diversity and inclusion concerns. She developed and implemented OMWI activities that addressed cultural diversity, differences, similarities, and contributions of the FDIC’s workforce. Prior to joining the enforcement section, she served as an honors attorney, detailed in 7, 12-week rotational placements within the FDIC Legal Division Section, including the Dallas and Chicago offices.
Before joining the FDIC, Jo served as a federal judicial law clerk for the Honorable Joel H. Slomsky, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania during the 2016-2017 term.
Jo earned her bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s University. While earning her bachelor’s degree, she was an intern for the John Kluge Center for Research at the Library of Congress and an intern for Inese Vaidere, member of European Parliament (Latvia), European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium. Jo earned her law degree from New York Law School. While in law school, Jo was an intern for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. and New York City and the Honorable Fernando J. Gaitan, Jr., U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri.
Outside of her legal practice, Jo is very involved in civic, charitable, bar, and community organizations. She was recently named chair elect of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (ABA YLD) and will serve as the national YLD chair beginning in August 2022.
Sternford MOYO
President, International Bar Association (IBA), Zimbabwe
Sternford Moyo, Chairman and Senior Partner of law firm Scanlen and Holderness, is the new President of the International Bar Association (IBA). Hailing from Zimbabwe, Mr Moyo is the first IBA President of African descent in the history of the 74-year-old organisation. He succeeds Brazil’s Horacio Bernardes Neto with a two-year tenure through to 31 December 2022.
Mr Moyo has held numerous senior IBA roles, including: Council Member, Management Board Member, Advisory Board Member and Chair of the African Regional Forum, Deputy Secretary-General for Southern Africa, Co-Chair of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI), Trustee of IBA-established entities, such as the Southern Africa Litigation Centre and eyeWitness to Atrocities, and member of the Task Force on Illicit Financial Flows, Poverty and Human Rights.
Marcos RIOS
Chair, American Bar Association – International Law Section (ABA-ILS), Chile
Marcos is a Partner of Carey and co-head of the Corporate / Mergers & Acquisitions / Insurance / Government Procurement Groups. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, government procurement, corporate compliance, insurance, real estate and gaming law matters. He graduated from Universidad de Chile and Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar.
He is also a Professor of the LL.M. in U.S. Business Law, Universidad de Chile and American University’s joint program.
Marcos is the Chair of the International Law Section at American Bar Association (ABA).
Teong Liang Yap
Vice President of the Executive Committee, LAWASIA, Singapore
Yap Teong Liang was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple) in 1991 and admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in June 1992.
After being admitted to the Singapore Bar, he joined a well-known law firm where he became a partner and headed the matrimonial department in that firm from January 1996 to May 1997 when he left to become one of the founding partners of another law firm. On 10th June 2002, with 10 years of experience behind him, he set up his own boutique law firm specialising in Family Law.
Teong Liang has extensive experience in the area of Family Law which he specialises in. He is no stranger to representing high net worth and high-profile clients, handling cases involving foreign marriages, cross border international jurisdictional and forum issues (Australia, China, France, Germany, United Kingdom, United States of America), child abduction and relocation cases, complex child custody, care and control and access cases, child maintenance, maintenance for the wife, division of matrimonial assets and family violence. He is currently Co-Chair of the Family Law Practice Committee of the Law Society of Singapore and Chair of the Family Law Section and Executive member of LAWASIA. Teong Liang is an Associate Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre and an Accredited Mediator with Regent’s University, UK. He is appointed by the Chief Justice as a member of the Rules Committee under Section 139 of the Women’s Charter (Cap 353) and was recently appointed onto the panel of Child Representatives by the Family Justice Courts.
Mr Yap served as Vice President of LAWASIA in 2017 and was re-elected to the LAWASIA Executive Committee in 2018 and 2019.
